For several years now the South Shore Buddhist Meditation Society has arranged a contemplative walk around the Graves Island Park. Starting around 11am we walk the trail around the island paying close attention to whatever is happening in each moment – in other words, in a mindful way.
This year there were seven participants. One person arrived slightly too late to join the main group, but caught up with us afterwards for lunch.
The weather was clear and calm with occasional bright sunshine, but quite chilly as you can tell from our clothing.
Birds and other small critters were out in force. They were skittish, but willingly bribed by offers of seeds. Anyone observing our efforts at feeding the birds and beasts must have thought us an odd bunch as we stood with arms out, palms upraised, perfectly still for minutes on end. Some sort of yoga practice, perhaps?
New plant growth was budding all around.
The complete circuit took about an hour, after which we huddled together at a picnic table to consume our packed lunches.
